Google, 5.5 billion euros for AI in Germany - Investment will increase German

Tech giant Google announced a 5.5 billion euro investment package in Germany, which will extend until 2029, with the aim of expanding its cloud infrastructure and artificial intelligence.

The plan focuses on building a new data center in Dietzenbach, near Frankfurt, and new investments in the existing campus in Hanau. These two locations will serve as key cloud hubs in Germany.

The company is also expanding offices in Berlin, Frankfurt and Munich, where it plans to transform the historic Arnulfpost building into a 30,000-square-meter development center that will house up to 2,000 employees.

According to Google estimates, this investment will add around 1 billion euros per year to German GDP. It will also support 9,000 jobs each year over the next four years.

German officials have warmly welcomed the move. They describe the deal as proof that Germany can still attract large amounts of foreign capital, despite a sluggish economy.

The new facility in Dietzenbach will strengthen Google Cloud's German network, which is part of 42 cloud regions worldwide. The facility will provide companies like Mercedes-Benz and Koenig & Bauer with faster and more secure access to AI-driven services.

Alongside its digital expansion, Google is ramping up efforts to decarbonize its operations in Germany. The company will extend its carbon-free energy partnership with utility Engie through 2030, sourcing electricity from new wind and solar projects.
