Apple threatens EU with product recall - Due to new legislation. "Brussels

Apple has called on the European Commission to repeal a series of technology regulations, warning that if changes are not made, it could ban the sale of some products and services in the 27 member states.

In another clash with Brussels, the iPhone maker said the Digital Markets Act (DMA) leads to a worse experience for Apple users, exposes them to security risks and disrupts the perfect way the company's devices work.

The Silicon Valley company criticized the law in a document it submitted as part of a review of the three-year-old legislation, which aims to limit the power of the largest digital giants, such as search engines, app providers and messaging services.

Apple has claimed that it has already delayed the release of features such as live translation via AirPods and iPhone screen mirroring on a computer, due to DMA requirements for interoperability with non-Apple products and services.

“The DMA means that the list of backward features in the EU is likely to grow and the user experience with Apple products will lag even further,” it said. Apple also added that Brussels is creating unfair competition, as the rules do not apply to Samsung, the largest smartphone provider in the EU.

Among the DMA's demands is that Apple ensure third-party headphones work with iPhones. This, the company says, has blocked the launch of its live translation service in the EU because it allows competitors to access conversation data, creating a privacy problem.

Apple called for the DMA to be repealed or, at the very least, replaced with more appropriate legislation. It did not specify which products could be withdrawn from the EU in the future, but said the Apple Watch, which was launched ten years ago, may not be available on the European market today.

This clash is the latest in a series between Apple and the European Commission. Earlier this year, the company appealed a €500 million fine imposed by the EU for allegedly preventing app developers from directing users to cheaper options outside the App Store.
