MET Group expands regional presence with entry into the Albanian market
Baar (Switzerland), September 25, 2025 – Swiss company MET Group announces its entry into the Albanian energy market through a new subsidiary based in Tirana, MET Albania. Leveraging its extensive electricity wholesale portfolio and advanced trading capabilities, MET Group aims to contribute to Albania’s energy security and reliable energy supply.
Albania is closely linked to regional energy markets where MET Group is already active. Establishing a physical presence in the country is a natural step towards deeper regional integration and supporting Albania's energy security.
The new branch will be led by Kreshnik Strati, an experienced Albanian business leader. He has held senior positions in both state-owned enterprises and well-known private national and international energy companies. As an engineer by training, Kreshnik Strati brings not only technical expertise, but also a deep understanding of the Albanian energy landscape.
Hydropower is the dominant source of electricity generation in Albania, making the country’s energy supply highly dependent on hydrological conditions. To meet its energy demand, Albania relies on cross-border imports and exports. MET Albania will focus on cross-border energy operations and on establishing supply agreements with local parties to enhance market stability and security of supply.
MET Albania CEO, Kreshnik Strati, commented: “Albania is an emerging energy market in Southeastern Europe with great growth potential. By leveraging MET Group’s extensive experience, we will reliably supply electricity to our customers and contribute to increasing energy security in the region.”
