Builders Association Appeal: The Tragedy That Should Wake Us All Up
During 2024, 177 accidents at work were recorded as a result of the numerous problems that are often encountered on construction sites where the necessary safety conditions are often lacking and not only, according to official data from the State Inspectorate of Labor and Social Services.
The construction sector remains the most at risk with 24% of accidents, reflecting the rapid development of this sector with 1,019 construction permits issued in 2024 according to INSTAT.
Despite intensive controls by the ISHPSHSH, accidents in this sector continue to be a challenge.
Taking cue from the recent accident in which 4 young people lost their lives, the Builders Association has published a statement to the media.
The tragic loss of four young people in the recent accident is a great pain for their families and for the entire society. The Builders Association expresses its most sincere condolences to the families and relatives of the victims. This serious event reminds us that violations of the rules and negligence in safety are not just numbers in statistics – they have serious and irreparable consequences.
We cannot remain indifferent to the abuses and informality that continue to undermine the construction industry and endanger people's lives. Illegal employment, lack of necessary qualifications, negligence in logistics and violations of safety rules must end. This accident is not a coincidence, but a direct consequence of irresponsibility and lack of proper control.
The Builders Association strongly condemns these practices and calls on the responsible institutions to increase monitoring and punish any entity that does not respect safety and employment standards. We cannot allow negligence and abuse to undermine the life and reputation of an entire sector.
Security and legality are not options – they are an inalienable obligation! This is the moment to act and stop once and for all the violations that cost people's lives.
