Greece, tourism brings in over 20 billion euros - Revenues increased by 9%. Over 31 million tourists visited the country
Tourism revenues reached more than 20 billion euros during the January-September period, marking a 9% increase compared to 2024. According to data from the Bank of Greece, this development reflects a 4% expansion in the number of tourists, with a total of 31.6 million people visiting the country.
Arrivals by air increased by 4.3%, as did entries via land border crossings (4.3%). During the period under review, trips from EU countries reached 18.8 million visitors, an increase of 0.8% compared to the same period in 2024, while arrivals from non-EU countries expanded by 9.3%, to 12.7 million.
Visitors from Germany increased by 8.2%, reaching 4.8 million visitors, while travelers from France decreased by 0.6%, registering 1.8 million visitors. Italian tourists also increased by 7.1%, reaching 1.9 million.
Among countries outside the EU, trips from the United Kingdom expanded by 4.3%, to 4 million visitors, while trips from the US increased by 5.6%.
The tourism sector remains a key pillar of the Greek economy, contributing significantly to the development of national income and job creation.
Revenues in this sector increased by 9% compared to the same period in 2024 and recorded 20.1 billion euros. This was driven by both a 5.6% increase in income from residents of EU countries, which reached 10.9 billion euros, and a 12.7% expansion in income from residents of countries outside the bloc, (8.1 billion euros).
