How did Albanians use their digital time? 85% spent it talking on the phone, 27% dealing with politics
A significant part of our time today is spent in the digital world, performing various activities on the internet. According to data published by Eurostat for 2024, the main ways in which citizens in Europe, including Albanians, spend their time online have been analyzed.
Only 39% of Albanians have used the internet to send emails during the year, ranking our country among the last in Europe for this type of communication. In contrast, Ireland maintains the highest level of email usage, proving that this form of communication still remains very important there.
When it comes to voice or video communication over the internet, Albanians are among the most active: 85% of them have used this method, making it one of the most widespread forms of online communication. Even in other Balkan countries, this percentage is relatively high.
About 69% of Albanians use social networks to post content or open new profiles. This shows that we are keeping up with the latest global trends in social media. Also, 62.7% of users spend their time reading information pages, articles or newspapers online – an indicator of the growing interest in digital information.
Exchanging messages on social networks remains one of the most widespread forms of communication in Albania. A full 79.6% of citizens use this method to stay in touch with others.
Although networks provide a space to express opinions and participate in discussions, only 27% of Albanians have participated in forums or pages where political issues are discussed. This is one of the lowest percentages of using the Internet for social or political purposes. Overall, the data shows that Albanians are very active in using the Internet for communication and social networking, while showing less interest in using it in more formal contexts such as email or political debate.
