Berat, towards electric public transport - Tender opens for 276 million lek, electric buses and intelligent stations

Over 276 million lek will be invested in the establishment of an integrated electric and intelligent public transport system in the city of Berat. The tender has been opened by the Albanian Development Fund, while the project foresees not only the purchase of electric buses, but also the establishment of charging infrastructure, intelligent stations and digital systems for public transport management.
According to the technical specifications, the project includes 100% electric buses and minibuses. Urban buses, about 12 meters long, must have a capacity of at least 80 passengers and a minimum autonomy of 250 km on a single charge. Meanwhile, electric minibuses, suitable even for the narrowest urban roads, must provide at least 150 km of autonomy.
The investment goes beyond electrifying the fleet. The documents foresee the establishment of a network of smart stations, where passengers will be able to receive real-time information about the arrival of buses. The system is expected to distribute information at 65 smart stations, on screens inside the buses, on the mobile application and through an online portal.
The infrastructure for supplying the fleet with energy will also be built. The project includes 5 charging points with a power of 50 kW for overnight charging, as well as 2 fast chargers with a power of 150 kW, which are planned to be placed at two strategic points, at the Terminal and near the Hospital. The system will automatically manage the schedules and charging power of the buses.
Another component is the digitalization of the service. Buses will be equipped with an electronic ticketing system, with the possibility of using contactless cards, electronic tickets with QR Code and mobile applications.
