Rama with the heads of municipalities: In cities with an influx of tourists, the weakness of local government has come to light
Prime Minister Edi Rama held a meeting today with mayors on the performance of local government in function of the "Albania 2030" vision in the EU.
At the beginning of his speech, the head of government emphasized that local government has a special role in the country's integration into the European Union.
"We are here together with the Minister of Local Government, the Deputy Prime Minister and a number of leaders of institutions directly related to the activity of local government, to address several issues that we consider very important in the smooth running of the work of local government, but even more so in the overall progress of the country's progress in achieving the major objective of Albania's membership in the EU. Local government has a special role in EU integration. We are here because not long ago we received 83 mandates, a historical record for a political force, which burdened us with a much greater burden than what we had. On the other hand, they are also an extraordinary test of our character ," said Rama.
He also emphasized that several key issues need to be addressed, mainly in places with higher tourist influx.
"We need to address in general some key issues that unfortunately characterize today's large cities and cities with a special tourist flow in Albania, where the weakness of local government has come to the fore as a result of a very big change in the entire way the country functions, due to the fact that the country no longer only supports its own residents, but also supports an extra load of tourists and visitors that is increasing and brings with it new complicated challenges and large extra loads for local government, especially in territories where the concentrations of visitors and tourists are greater. One of the things that is noticed is the internal incentive of business to overcome the predetermined limits of its activity, in the form of going beyond them and occupying territory, as well as to illegal construction in territories where attention is less. Or like in Vlora, where the mayor and the structures there have their eyes half open, half closed ", says the Prime Minister.
