AIPS "moves" 2.9 billion euros in 6 months/ About 22% more transfers in the European currency than in 2024
The AIPS-EURO system is increasingly confirming its position as a strategic channel for large euro transfers in Albania. According to official data published by the “Bank of Albania”, during the first half of 2025, 182,833 transactions were carried out, with a total value of 2.9 billion euros.
Both indicators, both the number and value of transactions, mark a significant increase compared to the same period a year ago, when around 149 thousand transactions and 2.3 billion euros were registered. The annual increase in the number of transactions is estimated at around 22%.
The growth has been continuous month after month. In January, the number of transactions was 25,865, while in June it reached 34,534. On average, over 30 thousand payments per month have been made through this system for customers alone.
But although the number of transactions continued to increase in June, their total value marked a decline compared to May. From 527.2 million euros in May, transactions fell to 510.5 million euros in June, which represents a contraction of about 16.7 million euros or 3.2%.
AIPS-EURO is the interbank payment system in euro managed by the Bank of Albania. It is used by banks to transfer large amounts of money in real time, and is essential for the financial operations of the government, large businesses and the banks themselves. Indirectly, it also facilitates large transactions of citizens – such as the purchase of real estate or vehicles.
