Culture under the "magnifying glass" of prices/ Books became more expensive. Musical instruments suffered a decline

The level and structure of prices of goods and services are among the main factors affecting household spending. In this context, the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices provides an important overview of price changes in cultural goods and services. The monthly data provided by the index enable the continuous tracking and monitoring of price movements in this sector, helping to better understand how their changes affect spending on culture.
At a time when consumers are facing constant price changes, the market for cultural goods and services has also undergone various movements during 2025. According to INSTAT data, books have seen the largest price increase, while some other cultural products have become cheaper.
The harmonized price index for books increased from 127.0 in 2024 to 130.7 points in 2025, which translates into an increase of 2.9%. INSTAT ranks this as the highest increase among cultural categories.
On the other hand, audiovisual and photographic equipment prices fell by 1.8%, making this the category with the largest decrease. Musical instruments also became cheaper. Their index dropped from 153.4 points to 151.4 points, marking a decrease of about 1.3%.
Meanwhile, prices of cultural services marked a slight decrease of 0.3%, while newspapers and other periodicals had a very small change, with only a 0.2% increase.
The data thus show a mixed picture of cultural consumption in Albania: while reading has become somewhat more expensive, audiovisual technology and musical instruments have had an opposite trend.
