About 3.2% of the population has never attended school/ Gjirokastra and Lezha with the highest number of uneducated individuals
According to the latest data from the 2023 Census, about 3.2% of the total population in Albania has never attended school. "Scan Intel" has analyzed these figures to identify the counties where the lack of education is most pronounced.
In the most populated counties such as Tirana and Durres, the percentage of individuals who have not attended school is relatively lower compared to other counties. Tirana, with 13,720 uneducated individuals, has a ratio of 19 uneducated individuals for every 1,000 inhabitants, while Durrës has 6,243 people who have not attended school, or 28 individuals for every 1,000 inhabitants. This may be related to the higher awareness of the importance of education in these areas, where the education system is more developed and offers more opportunities to individuals.
On the other hand, counties such as Berati and Dibra have a higher percentage of individuals who have not attended school compared to Tirana and Durrës. In Berat, 4,491 individuals did not have the opportunity or desire to get an education, thus registering 32 individuals per 1,000 inhabitants. Likewise, in Dibër there are 3,377 individuals who have never attended school, with a ratio of 31 individuals per 1,000 inhabitants.
Meanwhile, in Lezhë and Gjirokastër we have 35 uneducated individuals for every 1000 inhabitants, thus positioning themselves as the most uneducated counties in the country. Elbasan and Vlora are ranked next with 34 and 32 uneducated individuals for every 1,000 inhabitants.
In contrast, after Tirana, Korça and Kukësi seem to have paid more attention to education, registering the lowest number of uneducated individuals compared to the respective populations of each district. In total, in Kukës we have 1,676 individuals who have never attended school, while in Korçë this number is 4,699. The ratio of uneducated individuals per 1,000 inhabitants in these districts is 27.
