Rents and entertainment prices rose in January/ Inflation starts the year at 2.3%

Inflation in January was estimated at 2.3%, remaining unchanged compared to the previous month. However, compared to the same period a year ago, an increase is noted, as in January 2025 inflation was 1.9%.
The data show that the first month of the year was characterized by the most pronounced increase in prices in the entertainment and rental sectors. The “Entertainment, sports and culture” group recorded the highest increase with 4.9%, followed by “Rent, water, electricity, gas and other fuels” and “Insurance and financial services”, which each recorded a 4.4% increase.
Price increases were also recorded in the group "Alcoholic beverages and tobacco" by 2.7%, "Personal care and miscellaneous goods and services" by 2.6%, and "Restaurants and accommodation services" by 2.4%.
Regarding the impact on annual inflation, the main contribution was made by the group “Rent, water, electricity, gas and other fuels” with +0.87 percentage points, followed by “Food and non-alcoholic beverages” with +0.61 percentage points. Meanwhile, the groups “Furniture, household equipment and home maintenance” and “Restaurants and accommodation services” contributed with +0.14 percentage points each to the annual price increase.
The inflation performance at the beginning of the year shows that the main pressures continue to come from the costs of housing and basic services, but also from consumption in the entertainment and services sectors.
