Wage inequality falls to 4.6%/ The gap narrows, but some professions remain with differences over 20%
The gender pay gap in Albania has improved in 2025. According to the data, the difference between the average salary of women and men decreased to 4.6%, from 4.9% a year earlier. This indicates that inequality in income from work has narrowed slightly, although it continues to be present in some occupational categories.
Data by occupational group shows that women continue to be paid less than men in a large part of the labor market. The largest gap is recorded among sales and service workers, where the wage gap reached 23.6% in 2025, up from 23.2% a year earlier.
An increase in the gap was also observed among craftsmen and related professions, where the gap widened from 19.5% to 22.5%, as well as among workers in the assembly and use of machinery and equipment, where the gap increased from 19.3% to 22.8%.
Even in the group of specialists in higher education, the gap remains significant, although it has decreased slightly from 16.0% to 14.3%. Meanwhile, among technicians and specialists in implementation, the gap has remained almost unchanged, moving from 9.9% to 9.8%.
On the other hand, some professions continue to be dominated by women in terms of salary levels. In the category of managers, legislators and executives, the gap is negative, going from -8.7% to -11%, which shows that women in this group have a higher average salary than men. A similar situation is observed in the Armed Forces, where the difference went from -0.2% to 0.7%.
Although the overall indicator signals a decrease in gender pay inequality, data by occupation show that challenges remain significant in certain sectors of the economy. This underlines the need for policies aimed at equal pay and equal opportunities in the labor market.
