OSSH, investment in the outskirts of Tirana/ More secure energy supply in Farka, Kashar and Ndroq

The Regional Directorate of the Distribution System Operator for Tirana has announced the tender procedure for the construction of new 20 kilovolt cabins and the implementation of feeder ring connections at the most critical points of the electrical network. The investment, with a limit fund of 158 million and 428 thousand lek, aims to increase the security of electricity supply and improve the distribution infrastructure in some of the fastest developing areas of the capital.
Referring to the document at the Public Procurement Agency, the project will be implemented in the areas supplied by the Farkë, Qendër, Kashar and Ndroq substations, including significant interventions in the medium and low voltage network. According to the technical documentation, new cabins will be built, as well as existing cabins will be reconstructed, while the depreciated low voltage network will be rehabilitated through modern cables.
This investment comes in response to the continuous increase in electricity consumption in the peripheral areas of Tirana, where urban development and new construction have significantly increased the demand for supply. From the analyses carried out on the ground it results that a considerable part of the existing substations work with high loads, while the network presents depreciation of equipment, technical losses and low voltage levels for end consumers.
In some of these areas, the low-voltage network continues to operate with old lines, which no longer meet technical and safety standards. Also, some of the transformation cabins are overloaded and have worn-out equipment, increasing the risk of supply interruptions and affecting the quality of service.
This project aims to redistribute the load on the network, expand medium voltage lines and create ring connections between 20 kilovolt feeders. These connections will increase the security of supply, as in the event of a fault, energy can be supplied from an alternative line, reducing the time of interruptions for subscribers.
