Which regions "feed" Albania? Fier with meat and milk, Durrës with eggs, Korça with honey
Livestock remains one of the most important pillars of agriculture in Albania, guaranteeing a sustainable source of food and income for thousands of families. Data for 2024, analyzed by “Scan Intel”, show a rich and diverse picture of the distribution of livestock products across the country's regions, with some of them clearly standing out as major centers of milk, meat, egg and honey production.
The Fier region leads by a wide margin in total milk production, with 168,980 tons, of which over 156,000 tons come from cows alone. This indicates a developed and concentrated livestock structure, with a special emphasis on cattle breeding. Korça is next with 108,631 tons and Elbasan with 74,135 tons of milk produced, confirming their position as regions with strong traditions and capacities in livestock farming. In the south of the country, Vlora and Gjirokastra stand out for their high milk production from sheep and goats.
Even in meat production, Fier dominates convincingly with 26,014 tons of live weight meat, followed by Korça with 12,116 tons and Elbasan with 11,648 tons. In Fier, the high contribution from poultry is noticeable, while Korça has a more balanced structure between cattle, wool and goats. Lezha, meanwhile, stands out for its pork production.
In the central part of the country, Durrës holds the record for egg production, due in part to the concentration of some of the main poultry farms. Durrës produces an impressive 287.8 million eggs, while Shkodra follows with over 100 million eggs.
Tirana also has a high number of poultry (575,400), of which over 496,000 are egg-laying hens, making it one of the main suppliers of the domestic market.
When it comes to honey production, Korça leads with 908 tons, followed by Vlora with 859 tons and Elbasan with 799 tons. In terms of beehives, Vlora holds the first place.
