"Arson is a criminal act. The perpetrators must be discovered and punished" - Minister Hoxha, with the leaders of the Fire Service
Interior Minister Ervin Hoxha called for measures to be taken for prevention, rapid and efficient intervention in cases of fires, but also for the identification and punishment of any perpetrator of deliberate arson.
During the meeting with 61 Fire Service leaders in the country, Minister Hoxha stated that "data from recent years show us that in many cases, fires are directly caused by the careless or intentionally harmful activity of people themselves ."
Speaking about the issues of deliberate arson, the Minister of Interior requested that every case be investigated and that anyone who, intentionally or negligently, causes a fire be prosecuted.
"No case should and will remain without accountability. Fire is not simply a natural phenomenon, it is often a criminal act," Hoxha appealed.
Regarding measures to address problems during the summer season, the Minister emphasized cooperation between various structures and prevention.
“Faced with the challenges of fires, we need more than reaction. We need prevention. For this, we need close cooperation with all local emergency structures, with administrative units, with elders, with civil society and with the citizens themselves,” – said Hoxha. He further underlined that “you need to strengthen coordination at the local level, carry out preliminary inspections in high-risk areas, increase preparedness and implement local emergency plans!”
At the same time, Minister Hoxha announced that work is being done to equip firefighting structures with the most appropriate tools and working environments.
" The Ministry of Interior, - said Hoxha - will provide all institutional support to equip you with the necessary tools, information and support. New stations, like the one where we are holding this meeting today, here at Kinostudio will be added. New means will be provided, through the state budget, municipal funds or donors. The latter are present and I want to express my gratitude for their valuable contribution."
Regarding inter-institutional cooperation, the Minister of Interior emphasized that "we are working closely with the National Civil Protection Agency and the Ministry of Defense to increase our national capacities in the fight against fires."
At the end of his speech, the Minister requested an immediate commitment of the fire service structures, with the aim of prevention before intervention.
