Expansion of the Tirana - Durrës, Karakaçi axis: New lanes open in the first week of May

The expanded Tirana-Durres highway will open to traffic within the first week of May. The Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Enea Karakaçi, has inspected the works on this important road segment, guaranteeing the functioning of the new lanes on the eve of the summer season.
"Within the first week of May, this segment, on which work has been done to expand it, is and will be open to citizens. Thus creating a relief from traffic in the context of tourism and the tourist season that we are starting. Meanwhile, we will continue working on the completion procedures for the expansion in the other segment of Tirana-Durres and of course, through the Albanian road authority, the procedures for the other segments to go to Durres will also begin," said Karakaçi.
During the inspection, details were also provided regarding other road segments near the highway, such as the Tirana bypass and Kashar - Lekaj.
"In this segment, we are also working on several other projects, such as the Tirana bypass and the Kashar-Lekaj segment. I know that the works for the Tirana bypass have definitely started, while for Kashar-Lekaj we are also in the initial stages of starting the works," the minister announced.
"We are currently in two implementation contracts regarding the Tirana bypass. We are in the initial stages where the progress is currently 20% of the works, but this is definitely a very important bypass because it is about relieving traffic by not automatically forcing vehicles to come to Tirana to continue, say, to Ndroq, Plepa or further on the Kombinat side", - said the head of the Albanian Road Authority, Ami Kozeli.
Upon completion, the highway will have 8 lanes in total, 4 in each direction, while the permitted speed will range from 90 -140 km per hour.
