Ibrahimaj: The construction sector, the engine of economic growth and the well-being of citizens

The Minister of Economy and Innovation, Delina Ibrahimaj, in a meeting held together with Prime Minister Edi Rama, and business representatives in the construction and real estate sector, emphasized the importance of this sector for the country's economic development and increasing the well-being of citizens.
During her speech, Minister Ibrahimaj stated that economic growth is a means to achieve an improvement in the lives of citizens. She underlined that the construction sector, together with the real estate sector, has experienced steady growth over the last 10 years, contributing around 17% to the Albanian economy.
The construction sector was considered one of the main pillars of the economy, not only as a separate industry, but also as an important indicator of the level of investment in the country, being closely linked to other sectors such as tourism, manufacturing and services.
Minister Ibrahimaj stressed that support for this sector remains essential to ensure continued sustainable economic growth. She pointed out that the projects under development are expected to generate significant revenues, including around 14 million euros in local taxes in the initial stages, as well as other revenues from the economic activity that will be created around them.
Another important element of the discussion was the direct impact of this sector on employment and wages. Currently, the projects under development employ hundreds of employees and dozens of subcontractors, while the number of employees is expected to increase significantly in the further stages of implementation. Wages in this sector are significantly above the national average, reflecting the potential for further growth in welfare. However, Ibrahimaj underlined the need for increased formalization of wages and standards in the sector, in line with its rapid development.
During this meeting, it was also emphasized that modern projects with high urban standards represent models of success that contribute to the country's approximation to European Union standards and should serve as an example for other sectors of the economy.
The Minister of Economy and Innovation emphasized that the development of the construction sector is closely linked to the overall economic development of Albania and to the increase in the well-being of citizens, considering it a priority in the country's economic policies.
