Expansion and modernization of the Tirana substation - OST opens the competition, aiming for sustainable supply

The Transmission System Operator has announced the opening of the competition for the expansion of the Tirana 1 electrical substation, one of the most important energy supply points for the capital. The limit fund for this project is around 293 million and 645 thousand lekë.
The project foresees the installation of a new 220/20 kilovolt transformer with a capacity of 63 MVA, as well as the construction of a third 20 kV section. This investment aims to increase the security and capacity of electricity supply for the Tirana area.
According to the document at the Public Procurement Agency, as part of the works, several existing buildings within the substation, which currently serve for storage and technical treatment, will be demolished. In their place, a new two-story building will be constructed, where the new 20 kV section will be located, as well as spaces for services and storage.
The project also includes the construction of the new transformer base, the extension of the 220 kV power lines and the implementation of new cable connections, which will enable the normal operation of the new equipment. Special channels will be built for the passage of power and control cables, and some existing connections will be relocated to adapt to the new substation configuration.
An important part of the project is the modernization of the control and monitoring system. The new equipment will be integrated into the SCADA system, which allows for real-time control and monitoring of the substation.
The works also include the construction of internal access roads within the substation, to facilitate the movement of vehicles and the transport of heavy equipment during maintenance and technical interventions.
According to the document, the OST aims to improve the stability and security of the electricity network in the Tirana area, guaranteeing a more secure supply for consumers.
