2300 businesses, in the free energy market - They can choose their own supplier, ERE publishes the list of 40 licensees

The start of 2026 marks the entry into the liberalized energy market of approximately 2,300 businesses connected to the 6 KV voltage, disconnecting from the Universal Service Provider. These entities have the right to choose and contract one of the 40 suppliers licensed by the Energy Regulatory Authority in this activity. Meanwhile, for this purpose, ERE has also made available the Price Comparison Platform, which enables businesses to be informed and compare the offers of different suppliers.
In case a business fails to contract with a free market supplier or loses its existing supplier, there is also a transitional mechanism. Customers can be supplied for a limited period of time, up to 60 days, by the Supplier of Last Resort, a service currently offered by OSHEE Group. This mechanism aims to guarantee continuity of supply and avoid disruptions in economic activity.
The liberalization process has been implemented gradually. Initially, customers connected to the 35 kV voltage entered the free market, then those connected to the 20 kV network, followed by customers connected to the 10 kV and most recently to the 6 kV voltage.
The authorities emphasize that consumers have the right to choose and change supplier at any time, without penalties, as a right guaranteed by law. Meanwhile, the liberalization of the energy market is considered one of the most important structural reforms in the sector, with a direct impact on the way the market functions, on the financial burden on the state and on the relationship between energy and economic activity.
