The university is losing ground, young people are moving towards trades -

Between January and August of this year, 7,589 individuals received vocational training. These figures show an increase of 49% compared to the same period last year. But the question we raise is, is it a choice of young people who do not want to study at universities or a market demand?

Gertjana Hasalla Employment Expert:  "It is actually a market demand, because the market today, more than anything else, is looking for people who have certain professional skills to move forward but also to become part of it. Let's say that there is an extraordinary change in people's mindset, especially compared to 10 years ago. 10 years ago, it was necessary, even required, that you had a higher education degree, a university degree to get a job, to find a good job and everything else, for this reason we had many times more people in universities 10 years ago than we do today. The two main factors that have driven young people away from university are definitely the massive departure that has occurred among young people, but also this proximity and greater attraction to vocational education. More and more, vocational education is taking precedence over university. Because it gives young people the opportunity to do an education that lasts one to two years, or even 3-4 years, but without investing much in long time and money. in an education or diploma which at the end of the day would not be able to provide a well-paid job. Today, the professions that are and are the most sought-after, electricians, plumbers, mechanics, are all professions that receive a good salary in Albania, especially compared to other professions that already have a university or higher education diploma.”

According to statistics from the National Employment and Skills Agency, during the first 8 months of this year, 4,639 young people up to the age of 29 have chosen vocational training. Meanwhile, there are 4,292 women and girls in total, and 807 members of the economic assistance scheme who have chosen to be part of vocational training.
