“High-level security for critical infrastructures” - More requirements in agreements with third parties. Contingency plans for cyber attacks
Critical and important information infrastructures will implement several new measures to improve their cybersecurity. These include the systems of OSHEE, OST, KESH, commercial banks, hospitals, ministries and other state and non-state institutions, which, if they experience a cyber attack, cause great damage to society.
For this reason, a high-level security policy will be established and an appropriate role structure for information security management will be created.
Greater care will also be taken when these institutions enter into agreements with third parties, where there will be increased security requirements for them, including confidentiality and secure transfer of information. This is done in order to ensure that relationships with third parties do not negatively impact the security of communication networks and information systems.
But what are the other measures that will be taken?
Special attention has been paid to raising awareness and training of employees of ministries and other critical infrastructures through dedicated cybersecurity programs. Their knowledge in this regard will also be tested.
In addition, emergency plans should also be developed in case of unexpected cyber incidents, natural disasters, or operational disruptions.
Proper physical and environmental security of networks/information systems and equipment, appropriate access authorizations to communication networks and information systems, should not be left behind. The decision foresees the application of traffic filters in the case of remote access to systems, as well as the encryption of traffic with secure protocols.
Critical infrastructures such as electricity, healthcare, and public transportation systems depend on the proper functioning of the communication networks that support them. These systems constitute the main pillars for the functioning of the economy and society, so their security is essential.
Recently, Albania ranked 15th in the world in terms of cybersecurity, rising 39 positions compared to 2023. Despite this achievement, our country aims to climb even further in the coming years, as well as to more effectively avoid or cope with potential cyber risks.
