Cultural heritage increases income - Minister Gonxha: 108% more than in 2025
The National Institute of Cultural Heritage (IKTK) reports an increase in activity during the first 7 months of 2026. The data was made public by the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Blendi Gonxhja, who emphasizes the increase in investments, projects and interventions in the field for the protection, documentation and promotion of cultural heritage.
According to Minister Gonxha, the accumulated income from IKTK services has increased by 137% compared to 2024, while in relation to 2025 the increase is 108%. The increase is related to the increase in the number of services provided and chargeable by the institution.
Investments in cultural objects and assets have also increased. For the first seven months of 2026, they are 67% higher than in the same period of 2024, while compared to 2025, the increase reaches 400%.
On the other hand, restoration, conservation, survey, observation and archaeological excavation projects have also been in focus. The number of these projects has increased by 182% compared to 2024 and by 72% compared to 2025.
Meanwhile, archaeological field monitoring and inspections have increased by 367% compared to 2024 and by 195% compared to 2025.
In 7 months, 19 new archaeological sites have been identified in various areas of the country, including Shkodra, Lezha, Lushnje, Fier, Korça, Erseka, Pogradec and Divjaka. The number of new sites represents an increase of 280% compared to 2024 and 171% compared to 2025.
Meanwhile, after more than 25 years, archaeological excavations have returned to Lushnja, where important discoveries have been made in the areas of Zgjanë and Murrizë-Peqin.
According to the institution, the increase is related to the increase in services provided and chargeable, in accordance with Joint Instruction No. 5, dated 27.08.2025. During 2026, 7 by-laws in the field of tangible cultural heritage were also approved, 17% more compared to 2025.
IKTK evaluates the first seven months of 2026 as a period of greater efficiency, results, and commitment to protecting the country's cultural assets.
