Tirana holds 67% of all loans in the country - BoA: The capital leads, but Elbasan records the highest growth in the quarter
Despite the fact that Tirana always holds the record in terms of loans, and this is because the majority of the population is concentrated in the capital, the Elbasan district results in the highest increase in loans received in the second quarter of the year.
Elbasan residents are increasingly seeking loans from banks to finance consumption or purchase a home, making foreign exchange another item in their monthly expenses.
According to the latest data from the Bank of Albania, Tirana leads in loans to individuals with 230 billion lek, but with an increase of only 6.1%. The capital is followed by Durrës with 22 billion lek of loans and an increase of 5.4% compared to the first quarter, while in third place comes Vlora with 9.9 billion lek and an increase of 5.4%.
The amount of loans to farmers reaches a value of 9.3 billion lek, increasing by 5.2%, while in Elbasan it has reached 8.8 billion lek with a record increase of 7.4%.
Credit growth by region has followed the same trend as in 2023, where Elbasan held first place for high growth rates from the first quarter to the second quarter.
However, credit in Tirana accounts for more than 67% of total loans granted throughout the country.
