17th Meeting of the EU-Albania Subcommittee on Innovation, Information Society and Social Policies

Today, at the Palace of Congresses in Tirana, the 17th Meeting of the EU-Albania Subcommittee on Innovation, Information Society, Education, Culture, Social Policies and Employment took place, within the framework of the dialogue between Albania and the European Union on the European integration process.
The meeting opened with welcoming remarks by Enkelejda Muçaj, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, and Hubert Duhot, Co-Chair of DG ENEST.
During the thematic sessions, the parties discussed the progress achieved and further steps in the areas of:
• science, research and innovation, including participation in EU programs and strengthening the innovation ecosystem;
• digital transformation, media and approximation with the EU acquis in the electronic communications, mafia and cybersecurity sectors;
• education, culture and skills development;
• social policies, employment and equality, with a focus on legislative approximation and the implementation of social reforms;
• free movement of workers and strengthening institutional capacities for the implementation of the relevant acquis.
The discussions focused particularly on the fulfillment of closing benchmarks, the advancement of planned reforms, and inter-institutional coordination to fulfill obligations within the framework of membership negotiations.
Representatives of Albanian institutions presented the progress achieved so far, while the parties exchanged opinions and concrete recommendations for the next steps, reaffirming the joint commitment to accelerating reforms and strengthening cooperation with the European Union.
The meeting took place in physical and online formats, with the participation of representatives from the European Commission, the European delegation, and ambassadors.
