Will foreign students stay in Albania? Dashi: We need a strategy and a strong university-business connection

Over 2,000 foreigners have chosen Albania as their study destination. Although this trend is increasingly visible, the effect it will have remains unknown, as it is a relatively new phenomenon.
Human Resources Expert, Senti Dashi, states that our country needs qualified employees in various fields, the market is not open enough, despite the need.
"The Albanian market is open, but not enough. There are several reasons for this. We really have a very high demand for some fields, such as tourism, IT, medicine, while it is a little difficult to find these candidates in these types of professions.
"But, to have good candidates like these students, we need to invest a little as a state, starting with procedures. Universities need to be a little more practical."
The expert sees the connection between universities and business as a key element in keeping these young foreigners in Albania and not leaving as soon as they graduate.
"After completing their studies, they should do some kind of internship and then adapt these skills in companies. Not just graduate and then leave them in the middle of the road, because we can prepare them for other countries, while we should use them for our own country. They are an economic good, but also a good thing in terms of international relations. Companies should have a slightly more international and collaborative spirit. We have a little work to do to achieve this kind of balance, and experience also plays its part. We need more policies that connect universities with business."
Until now, we have become accustomed to seeing foreigners in sectors where qualification is not necessary, while the lack of local professionals is bringing about the need to review the market and bring together professionals from different fields.
