"There are no technical problems", ARRSH clarifies the ban on heavy

The Albanian Road Authority has provided clarifications regarding the restriction of road traffic for heavy vehicles on the old Mati Bridge. According to the ARRSH, this is not a structural problem with the bridge, but the restriction of vehicles with a capacity of over 13 tons is a protective measure for this infrastructure. The ARRSH clarification states:

"Regarding some news and articles published today regarding the restriction of traffic on the Mati Bridge, we would like to inform you that there is no question of any new structural failure, damage or problem with the bridge. The imposed restriction is a mandatory preventive measure, undertaken to guarantee the stability, safety and durability of the bridge.

The old Mati Bridge, which recently underwent an emergency intervention to reinforce the foundations, is facing a significant flow of traffic, especially from heavy tonnage vehicles that exceed the permitted weight of 13 tons.

Since its opening, the bridge has been equipped with appropriate signage, which only allows the passage of vehicles with a tonnage of up to 13 tons. However, field monitoring shows that this signage is repeatedly not respected, creating an unnecessary load and jeopardizing the stability of the structure in the future.

For this reason, the Albanian Road Traffic Authority, in cooperation with the Traffic Police, has taken additional measures to control traffic, by placing concrete elements on both sides of the bridge, in order to prevent the passage of heavy vehicles that exceed the permitted limit. Vehicles over 13 tons must use the alternative route.

We emphasize once again: this measure is not related to any collapse or damage to the bridge, but is a necessary safety and prevention measure, to protect the intervention carried out on its foundations and to guarantee the long-term stability and durability of the structure.

In this context, we call for not speculating on such technical issues and not misinforming the public through unfounded articles or statements, which unnecessarily create concern among citizens.

We ask for the understanding of all road users, respect for posted signage, and the implementation of the restriction on the passage of vehicles with a tonnage of up to 13 tons.

"The safety of citizens and maintaining the sustainability of road infrastructure remain our priority."
