Technology sector, in record growth - Report, over 22 thousand employees and 210 million euros in exports

The Global Entrepreneurship Week discussed the labor market report in the information technology sector. According to the report, this sector has experienced rapid development, which was also emphasized by the Minister of Economy and Innovation, Delina Ibrahimaj, based on concrete figures.
"The Information Technology sector has developed extraordinarily in the last 10 years, and it is evident from the export figures, which 10 years ago were at the level of 8 million euros, today they are at 210 million euros. From the figures of employees in this sector that once did not exceed 4,000 people, today there are over 22 thousand people, from the figures of businesses registered in this sector which have also grown exponentially, although some of them continue to be small businesses with up to 10 employees, there are also very large businesses that produce services for Albania, but also for exports."
The Minister emphasized that, in terms of public services, Albania stands above the countries of the region. However, the challenge remains in absorbing innovation from the private sector, especially from small and medium-sized enterprises.
"The private sector, mainly small and medium-sized enterprises, have a low level of use of information technology, but on the other hand, their ability to absorb talent in this regard is low as talent is in short supply."
The report also highlights a large gap between the capacities of Tirana and those of other cities. To address this gap, steps have been taken through Start-Up Albania's grant programs, with the aim of strengthening the start-up ecosystem and their wider distribution throughout the territory.
