Coffee in abundance, cocoa expensive/ October records record imports in value, but there are differences in weight

The published data for October 2025 imports show a strong movement in the coffee market, marking the highest levels ever recorded in both value and volume. With over 863 million lekë in value and over 1,334 tons imported, coffee has reached the absolute top of the data series. This is a clear signal of high demand and stable supply during this month, but not only. The year 2025 has broken records month after month.
Although coffee imports have exploded in volume, the average price per kilogram has fallen by about 8% compared to October last year. This means that the record value is not the result of a higher price, but simply of a much larger quantity entering the country. So the growth is driven by volume, not price.
Cocoa: fewer kilograms, but much more expensive
On the other hand, cocoa tells a completely different story. October is the second highest value, but the average price per kilogram has increased by almost 29%. Imports by weight have fallen significantly, by about a third, but this decline has been accompanied by a significant increase in the price of cocoa.
Coffee and cocoa, although often grouped together as tropical agricultural commodities, are delivering two very different narratives this October. For coffee, we have a buoyant market driven by volume, suggesting international stability and perhaps import price advantages. For cocoa, we have a tight market with rising prices on international markets.
For the coffee processing industry, this is a good month with ample supply and a low average price. While for the chocolate, biscuit and other cocoa-based products industry, the situation is more difficult.
