How much honey does Albania produce? - 58 thousand more hives, the quantity on the market increases

Honey production in the country is increasing significantly from year to year, showing signs of an expanding sector, where support measures from the National Scheme have also had an effect.
According to data from the Agricultural and Rural Development Agency, during 2025, it turns out that 6,299 tons of honey were produced out of 5,940 tons of honey produced in 2024. In other words, production increased by 359 tons or about 6% more.
There has also been an increase in the number of beehives, which is recorded at 645 thousand beehives across the country in 2025, up from 587 thousand hives a year earlier, with an expansion of 58 thousand more hives.
During the past year, 4,135 beneficiaries were supported by the National Scheme 2025, which provided funding of 1 thousand lek per hive for the threshold of 50-150 beehives; 50% funding above the ceiling of 150 hives and 100% funding for each member if grouped in a union of operators with a minimum of 7 members.
While during this year where the scheme has changed, 7016 applications were registered from beekeepers throughout Albania, although the final list of beneficiaries has not yet been announced.
For beekeeping, support through the National Scheme 2026 has been doubled and the limit of hives that a farmer must have has been halved. Specifically, 2 thousand lek will be given per hive, per farmer/applicant, with no less than 25 hives. For the part over 150 hives, the benefit amount is reduced by 50%, excluding cases of applicants with the status of "Agricultural Cooperative Society".
There are about 12,000 beekeepers across the country, of which about 3,000 have over 50 hives.
