Albania, second in Europe for flight growth/ Air activity increased by 28.6% in

Albanian tourism has continued to grow strongly in recent years, making the country one of the most sought-after destinations in the region. This increase in the number of visitors is also being reflected in air traffic, especially during the summer months, when tourist flows reach their peak.

Eurostat data for July shows that the number of commercial flights in Albania increased by 28.6% compared to the same month last year. The figure ranks Albania in second place in Europe for the largest increase in flights, while also positioning it at the top of the region.

In practice, this means that during July, Albanian airspace had significantly higher activity than a year earlier, at a time when the country was experiencing a busy tourist season. In the European ranking, Albania is only behind Slovakia, which recorded the largest increase in flights, by 36.5% compared to July 2025.

Albania is followed by Montenegro, with an increase of 18.8%, while North Macedonia ranks fourth, with an increase of 14.3%. Significant increases in air activity have also been recorded in other European countries, including Estonia, Malta and Hungary, proving that the summer of 2026 has brought strong movements to the European flight market.

The data is particularly significant for the Balkan region. In addition to strong growth in Albania and Montenegro, Serbia recorded a more moderate growth of 2.5%.

Meanwhile, Bosnia and Herzegovina is the only other country in the region to have recorded a decline, albeit a slight one, with 0.6% fewer flights compared to July last year. Several European markets have recorded a decrease in the number of flights compared to July 2025. Iceland recorded the largest decline, with 7.9% fewer flights. It is followed by Austria, with a decrease of 3.5%, while Germany recorded a decrease of 2.6%.

Decreases were also recorded in Cyprus, by 2.4%, the Netherlands, by 2.3%, and Croatia, by 2%. In this panorama, Albania's 28.6% increase stands out even more. The figures show not only a strong tourist season, but also the expansion of air connections that is accompanying the growing demand to travel to the country.
