How much do banks earn from our interests? - BoA: Total net income including

Have you ever wondered how much money banks make from the interest we pay on loans? Gross interest income last year was 97 billion lek, about 3% higher than in 2024.

Considering that banks spend part of this profit to pay the interest we earn on deposits, net income is lower, only 0.3% higher than in 2024.

Banks generate income not only from interest, but also from commissions, fines, investment in financial instruments or from participations in related companies. Thus, income from fines and commissions receivable results in 21.8 billion, thus compensating for losses from interest expenses on deposits of citizens and businesses.

According to data from the Bank of Albania, the profit from fines and commissions that banks charge when we carry out transactions at the cash register and beyond, has increased by 15.8%.

What about other expenses?

As in any institution and business, a significant portion of the profit is devoted to personnel expenses, which are estimated at 20 billion lek. Other deductions are profit tax, taxes and provisions.

From these figures, we understand that the largest income of banks comes mainly from loan interest and the highest expenses from non-interest.

However, adding other income and deducting operating expenses, provisions and taxes, the profit remaining to banks at the end of the year is 35.6 billion lekë, about 4.7% lower than in 2024.
