Car imports on the rise, led by South Korea - Over 6 thousand vehicles registered per month, Tirana with the main weight

First-time vehicle registrations in the country have increased at the beginning of 2026. According to official data from the DPSHTRR, during January 6,895 vehicles were registered for the first time, marking an increase of 4 percent compared to 2024.
In total, for the year 2026, 5,673 vehicles have been registered so far, while registrations include 26 types of vehicles and 221 different brands.
According to purchase categories, 4,389 vehicles are used and purchased outside Albania, while 1,037 are new vehicles in total.
Tirana leads in the number of registrations during January, with a total of 2,771 vehicles registered. Of these, 1,633 are used vehicles, while 636 are new vehicles purchased abroad. After Tirana, Durrës ranks as the second region with the highest number of registrations, with a total of 1,075 vehicles.
Referring to the DPSHTRR data for the division by typology, there are 5,140 vehicles. Of these, 392 are new vehicles purchased outside Albania, while the majority are imported used vehicles, which amount to 3,545 in total.
In terms of the origin of the vehicles, South Korea ranks first with 1,747 vehicles. Next comes Germany with 1,32 vehicles, China with 945 vehicles, Italy with 903 and Switzerland in fifth place with 526 vehicles.
The data shows a high volume of entries into the vehicle market and a wide variety of brands and categories registered in the first month of the year alone.
