The best way to measure corruption in a country is precisely the perception of it, and Transparency International publishes the most prestigious global report on corruption perceptions every year.

The newly published report for 2025 ranks Albania 91st in the world out of 180, with 39 points, on a scale of 0-100, where 100 indicates zero corruption in a given society. In the previous report, our country scored 42 points, marking a deterioration this year, and was ranked 80th.

On the other hand, Kosovo has also marked a decrease of one point compared to the previous year and is rated with 43 points in the Corruption Perceptions Index for 2025 of the international organization, Transparency International. In 2024, Kosovo received a rating of 44 points, ranking 73rd in the world. This is after marking a slight progress in fighting corruption compared to 2023, when it was rated with 41 points.

Compared to the region, we rank better than Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia. Bosnia and Herzegovina ranks 109th, scoring 34 points and marking an improvement. Serbia, meanwhile, has marked a deterioration, ranking last in the region with 33 points.

North Macedonia and Montenegro have not seen any changes in their ratings, receiving 40 and 46 points respectively.

The 2025 report shows that corruption remains a serious threat in every part of the world, although there are limited signs of progress.

Between the lines, it is emphasized that leaders must act to address abuses of power and the broader factors driving this decline, such as the reduction of democratic checks and balances and attacks on independent civil society.
