Construction of the 8th road corridor - Expropriations for 148 properties in Lot II of the Elbasan - Qafë Thanë segment are about to begin
The issue of expropriations in Lot II of Corridor 8 is moving towards a solution, paving the way for the completion of the works. The State Expropriation Agency has announced the request for the expropriation, in the public interest, of 148 properties affected by construction in the Miraka area in Librazhd, part of the Elbasan - Qafë Thanë segment, while the total preliminary value of the expropriation is estimated at 44.3 million lekë.
Meanwhile, a few days ago, a request for expropriation of 15 properties was announced for Lot III of this road. Expropriations have been one of the main obstacles in this segment, in addition to the relocation of high-voltage lines, which has slowed down the progress of the works and their completion according to the contractual deadlines.
However, representatives of the Albanian Road Authority have announced that within this year, the completion of works on several lots of the Corridor 8 road is expected. In the direction from Elbasan to Qafë – Thanë, in addition to lot I, which is currently completed, the completion of phases II, III and V is also expected. Together with the first, these phases include the segment starting from Labinot – Fushë, up to the city of Librazhd.
More specifically, phase V foresees the construction of the tunnel, as it is divided into two segments, one of which starts right after the Murrash bridge, which marks the end of phase III, making the 2 phases connect to each other. In the direction from Elbasan to Qafë - Thanë, there are a total of 8 contracts covering a length of 26 km and in the other lots, the works will be ongoing.
Meanwhile, within 2026, the completion of 6 other lots of Corridor 8 is also expected, but in the direction from Elbasan - Towards Rrogozhina, covering about 20 km, out of 40.7 km in total. After the completion of the works, this axis will be a category B, interurban road with 2 lanes on each side, while referring to the documents, the allowed speed will be in the range of 90 - 140 km/hour.
