Elbasan-Qafë Thanë Road, first 7.5 km open - Corridor VIII, ARRSH:

The Albanian Road Authority has announced the opening to traffic of the first 7.5 km of the Elbasan – Qafë Thanë road expansion project, part of Corridor VIII. The opened segment extends from the exit of the village of Labinot-Fushë to about 500 meters after the village of Mirakë and is now accessible with two lanes in each direction.

According to the ARA, the opening of this segment is expected to significantly improve traffic, increase road safety, shorten travel time, and facilitate the transport of passengers and goods on one of the country's most important axes.

The investment is part of the Elbasan - Qafë Thanë road expansion project, one of the key segments of Corridor VIII, which aims to modernize the road connection between Albania and North Macedonia and bring it closer to European standards.

Until now, traffic on this part of the road was carried out only on one side of the axis, while the expropriations approved by the government enabled the full opening of traffic on the first segment.

Meanwhile, the ARA previously announced that the full completion of all 8 phases of the project is targeted by December 2027.

In parallel, the implementation of the ninth phase of the project, which includes the construction of the Hotolisht tunnel, is expected to begin this year. This investment will solve the problems created by the initial project, which divided the village into two parts and was opposed by the residents.
