5G network, soon a reality throughout Albania/ With the release of the 700 MHz frequency band, the way is opened for the implementation of this technology
The path to the implementation of the 5G network has been paved through the release of digital dividend two (DD2) frequencies, which includes the frequency band from 640 MHz to 790 MHz. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy has published for public consultation a draft law, which aims to ensure the continuity of audiovisual media services after their release of the 700 MHz frequency band.
Given that the 700 MHz band is currently in use by audiovisual media, the latter will have partial financial compensation for the costs incurred by the process of releasing the 700 MHz band, in order to ensure the continuity of public reception of all television programs transmitted via terrestrial networks, after the release of the 700 MHz band.
The main 5G frequency bands are the 700 MHz band, the 3400-3800 MHz band, and the 26 GHz band.
The 700 MHz band is technically the best frequency band for building 5G networks, especially because the frequencies of this band achieve very good coverage with a certain number of stations (antennas). This frequency band will be made available for use by mobile operators.
About 5.1 million euros will be the budget expenses for their release, which will be compensated by the income that will be earned from the granting of frequencies to mobile operators. The process foresees an increase in income in the state budget, as it is related to the release of the important DD2 frequency band, as well as the licensing of other free frequencies that have been designated for use for 5G networks.
The release of frequencies also comes as a request from the European Union, set out in the common negotiating position document for the third chapter group, regarding the requests for Chapter 10, “Digital Transformation and Media”. This also solves the problem of interference with neighboring countries.
In theory, 5G offers an average speed of 10 Gbps, which is more than 100 times faster than current 4G technology.
