Prime Minister Edi Rama stopped by the College of Europe in Bruges today, where he admitted during his speech that he had been hesitant to come. He explained this by the fact that staying in Bruges is more difficult than in Brussels, as there you are faced with history, legends and “spirits that are found in every corridor.”

"It is not easy to face this atmosphere, but I decided to be here because this College is not only a center of knowledge, but a laboratory of Europe. I thought that Bruges is not Brussels, so it is worth talking to some still free minds," Rama said.

Referring to the notes of the Albanian ambassador to the EU, Ferit Hoxha, Rama recalled that Bruges was once an important trading hub, called the “Venice of the North.” Today, according to him, thanks to the College, the city has become an intellectual center of the continent.

"Every time I enter this door, I feel the weight of generations of leaders and thinkers who have come out of here. Some of you may one day become commissioners, ministers or prime ministers. Perhaps one day your portraits will hang on these walls. I hope you keep the European spirit alive," he said.

Rama also highlighted the difficulty that, in times of crisis, the spirit of European unity is often violated. "In such moments, it seems easier to count the borders that separate countries, rather than the bridges that connect them," he stressed.
