EU, 17 billion euros for small and medium-sized businesses/ Initiative aims to improve energy efficiency

The European Commission and the European Investment Bank Group (EIB) have launched a financing initiative worth 17.5 billion euros.
According to the Commission, more than 350,000 companies across Europe are expected to benefit from this scheme to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.
The Energy Efficiency Initiative for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises is led by the EIB Group. It aims to help companies use proven energy-saving technologies to reduce their energy bills and increase their sustainability and competitiveness, the Commission points out.
The programme will use a combination of existing and new financial instruments, including debt and equity. The EU expects to mobilise over €65 billion in investment in the sector by 2027.
To simplify access and support for businesses, the initiative will introduce a “single point of support for energy efficiency in enterprises.” The Commission explained that this unified entry point will integrate the European Investment Bank’s mezzanine lending offer and speed up implementation.
Commission sources pointed out that small and medium-sized businesses invest in energy efficiency at only half the level of large enterprises. “This initiative will be essential to close the investment gap, simplify access to finance and accelerate implementation,” the officials added.
