New business registrations increase by 5.28% in January - Wholesale and retail trade "absorbed" more entrepreneurship

During January 2026, 2,152 new businesses were registered at the National Business Center (NBC), marking an increase of 5.28% compared to January 2025, when 2,044 new entities were registered. This indicator confirms the continued interest in the development of economic activity and the formalization of enterprises in the country.
The highest number of registrations results in the Tirana region with 1,166 subjects, followed by Durrës (250), Vlora (187), Elbasan (118) and Fier (118). The other regions are as follows: Korça (78), Lezha (76), Shkodra (74), Berat (27), Dibra (21), Gjirokastra (20) and Kukës (17).
According to economic sectors, the activities with the highest number of registrations are: Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles – 546, Accommodation and food service activities – 261, Professional, scientific and technical activities – 210, Transport and storage – 163, Construction – 162, as well as Information and communication – 154.
During January 2026, 718 registered entities are managed by women, reflecting a stable participation of women in entrepreneurship.
In the three registers administered by the Central Bank, a total of 11,946 applications were made in January 2026. Also, in the first month of the year, 125 permits and licenses were registered, where 16 entities were issued with permits (mainly Type B Environmental Permits - 12 cases) and 109 entities were issued with licenses.
Among the categories with the highest number of licenses issued are: Primary medical and/or dental services – 42; Production, processing and wholesale distribution of food – 8; International road transport of goods – 7; Vocational training – 6; Tour operator – 5; Pharmacy/pharmaceutical agency – 5.
During January, three new services were added to the e-Albania platform, which are application for simplified liquidation; Application for completing the historical extract; as well as Withdrawal from the application in the register of licenses, authorizations and permits.
