Explosives production in Albania/ Former Poliçan Factory resumes activity, explosives will be used in mines and infrastructure

The former Mechanical Plant in Zone B of Poliçan will be put back into operation, this time for the production of explosives for civilian use. The company “EXPLO-CHEM INDUSTRIES” has initiated procedures to obtain an environmental permit for the development of the production activity of ANFO, an explosive mixture used mainly in mines and infrastructure projects.
According to the non-technical summary of the project, the activity is expected to take place within the premises of the former factory, a facility that previously served for the production of military explosives such as TNT and other ammunition. The company has signed a lease agreement with the Municipality of Poliçan and aims to install a production line within building no. 202 of the industrial complex.
The project envisages the production of ANFO for civil use, which according to the document is achieved through a physical mixture of ammonium nitrate with oil, without additional chemical processes and without the release of gases or by-products. The raw material will be supplied by internationally certified companies, while the final product will aim to replace part of the current imports in the mining and construction sectors.
The company argues that domestic production will reduce costs for companies operating in mines, quarries, tunneling and infrastructure projects, bringing economic benefits at the local and national levels. The document also emphasizes that the product will not be stored in an explosive state and production will be carried out only according to market demands, which according to the company increases the level of safety.
