US-North Macedonia agreement reached/For reciprocal, fair and balanced trade

The United States and North Macedonia have reached a framework agreement for reciprocal, fair, and balanced trade to strengthen bilateral economic relations, which will provide exporters from both countries with broader access.

"The agreement will strengthen our trade relations, support shared strategic interests, promote economic growth, and deepen our transatlantic partnership," the joint statement states.

Referring to the agreement, North Macedonia will suspend customs duties on all exported American industrial and agricultural goods.

The United States will maintain a 15 percent reciprocal tariff on goods originating from North Macedonia. The agreement stipulates that the two countries will work to resolve U.S. concerns about non-tariff barriers imposed by North Macedonia, which affect bilateral trade in priority areas.

Another point of the agreement stipulates that 63-64 strategic products will be exported to the US with tariffs ranging from zero to 6.5 percent.

The two countries will hold consultations to resolve and prevent barriers to American agricultural products in the domestic market, as well as strengthen economic security cooperation.

Regarding opportunities in the energy sector, the two countries are considering the construction of a new major gas interconnector between North Macedonia and Greece, which would allow the country to improve energy security and diversify energy sources, including by purchasing American liquefied natural gas.

North Macedonia will begin purchasing liquefied natural gas from the US after the completion of the new gas interconnector.
