Total investments in Albania increase by 3.8% - BSH: However, their ratio to GDP

Investments in our country, whether made by the state or the private sector, have increased significantly throughout this year. Despite this, the ratio of investments to Gross Domestic Product in the second quarter has suffered a small decrease compared to the first quarter.

According to data from the Bank of Albania, total investments increased by 3.8% in the second quarter, a rate similar to the first quarter of the year. To a greater extent, these investments took the form of public infrastructure, business premises and residential buildings, as suggested by the increase of about 10.1% in value added in construction.

In parallel with it, there has also been an increase in the investment of businesses in machinery and equipment, which is evidenced by the higher figures of imports. If we refer to INSTAT, imports in this ten-month period have increased by 2% compared to last year. The import value of machinery, equipment and spare parts was recorded at 196 billion.

Investment expansion continues to be supported by the need for capacity expansion, production and service, in response to the insufficiency of existing capacities, positive confidence for the future, as well as liquid balances, favorable financing conditions and rapid credit expansion.

Indirect quantitative data and those from surveys suggest a similar pace of investment growth in the third quarter as well. Imports of machinery and equipment recorded double-digit growth. The capacity utilization rate is at quite high levels and the financial situation of businesses has continued to improve.

What percentage of the Gross Domestic Product is national investment?

From the official statistics of the Bank of Albania, it appears that the ratio of investments to GDP is calculated at 21.7%, with a decrease of 0.7 percentage points. Public investments are at the level of 3.8% of GDP, while private investments are at the level of 17.9% of GDP.
