Reconstruction of the Polytechnic University of Tirana - Rama and Manastirliu

Prime Minister Edi Rama and the Minister of Education and Sports, Ogerta Manastirliu, closely followed today the works at the Polytechnic University of Tirana, where thanks to the investment in the reconstruction of two existing buildings, the construction of the new Geology Museum, modern laboratories, lecture and study halls, better conditions will be created for students and lecturers for academic development.

Manastirliu said that the works began a year ago and are expected to be completed in December 2025.

"Work has begun on the rehabilitation and construction of the Geology-Mining campus a little over a year ago. The building is a historic building and as such, the works are progressing at the right pace, also due to the earthquake problems, there was a need to review the project and the relevant reinforcements. It is an investment of six million euros from the state budget and the contribution that the Polytechnic University itself provides. It is a project carried out by the professors themselves and this building will be completed in December of this year ," said the minister.

"The Polytechnic University of Tirana is practically an open construction site because the Faculty of Architecture and Engineering is also being rebuilt. We have three volumes of buildings there, the first of which has begun and the second is expected to continue. There are about 12 million dollars foreseen for the investment, where again we have 70% coverage of the state budget and all the projects that are being carried out with different sectors, mainly health and education, are being carried out by the architects and engineers of the Polytechnic University ," she added.

For his part, Prime Minister Rama praised the work done and suggested some details regarding the project, so that the building and the spaces around it can be open to the public, without affecting the learning process.

"I think we need to find a way to see this part, we need to make some variants, we need to find a way to make it feel like you're entering an area. I would think that here could be a covering with stone volumes that is both for protection and for everything but also that goes in this direction. The area here instead of being something paved in the middle of the city, should be something a little more geological. We need to work on some variants and then we can engage everyone. The problem is to have the right project in this part since it will change as I understand it. If we are going to go in this direction, if I understood it clearly, then we need to find a way so that this square is not a typical square. So, on the one hand, it should be preserved as it was. We need to find a way so that teaching is not disturbed, but that it should also be like a city. For example, on Saturdays and Sundays you can open this part to the public ," said Rama.
