Businesses, 3.8 million transactions through the cash register - BoA: About 81% of them are cash deposits. Record value compared to individuals

Businesses have seen record transactions at physical bank counters over the past year. One of the reasons why business transactions through the cash register remain at very high levels is because large cash deposits or other business-specific services cannot be performed at ATMs or through mobile banking.
The latest data from the Bank of Albania shows that businesses have about 3.8 million transactions through cash registers in 2024. Nearly 81% of these transactions are cash deposits, while 19% are cash withdrawals. According to estimates, about 1.63 trillion lek were deposited through cash registers alone, while 494 billion lek were withdrawn by businesses in 2024.
As for periodic transactions, the statistics of the Bank of Albania show that 315 thousand credit transfers and 17 million debit transfers were carried out last year. Around 210 billion lek is estimated to be loan disbursements, i.e. the deposit of loan funds into the business account, while 734 billion are deposit interest payments.
On the other hand, total debit transfers from individuals and businesses have increased in number, but decreased in transaction amount. Credit card repayments result in 12 billion lek, while loan installment payments amount to 136 billion lek.
According to official data, in total (including both individuals and businesses) 3.3% more banking transactions were carried out through the cash register compared to 2023.
Despite the fact that the number of transactions carried out at physical bank counters has increased for both individuals and businesses, the latter have performed transactions at the cash register in values many times higher than individuals. This is because businesses have a larger cash flow than individuals, but not only that.
