Albania, first in the World Tourism Organization ranking Rama: The destination with the highest increase in the number of tourists in 2024
For 2024, Albania ranks first in terms of the largest increase in the number of tourists. The largest World Tourism Organization, in which UN member states are members, ranks Albania first, which has an 80% increase in the number of tourists in 2024, compared to 2019. Saudi Arabia ranks second with 69% and Colombia with 37%.
Prime Minister Rama, publishing it on social networks, states that these figures show a development unimaginable until a few years ago.
Meanwhile, responding to commentators in the "Sy m'sy" column, Rama says that 10 years ago the country was filled with ruins and tourists had nowhere to take a photo. Today, Albania's image has been cleaned up, and that is why it is visited by so many tourists from all over the world.
"The fact that this is happening today is related to the main work that has been done in these years in every direction to first of all overturn that scandalous image of Albania, to clean up the scum, the garbage everywhere, to reborn cities, to rebuild infrastructure, to support investments in tourism, agriculture, small business, and on and on and on."
"Would tourism grow like this if the airport were the most expensive in Europe, or would Tirana be the same as it was 10 years ago, snoring and we woke it up from its slumber. Vlora, Korça, Himara, Lezha, etc. would be the same as it was 10 years ago, where you couldn't take a photo because you had nowhere to turn around from the devastation."
The past year was another record year for tourism with 11.7 million foreign visitors, while this number is expected to reach 12 million tourists. Meanwhile, this year Albania is the Place of Honor at the global tourism fair in Berlin, which is the largest fair in the world.
