Rama: Task force to control the fuel market and food prices

In the Flasim podcast, Prime Minister Edi Rama stated that the government aims to bring about a significant change in the fuel market in Albania, so that the price of oil is not so strongly affected by fluctuations in international markets. According to the Prime Minister, this is an objective taken at the beginning of the government's fourth mandate and is expected to mark a turning point in the way the hydrocarbon market functions in the country.

"So, I strongly believe that this will be a turning point to fulfill another ambition and commitment taken immediately upon the start of the fourth mandate, that the oil traded in Albania be a product at a level not so strongly affected by fluctuations in international markets and this is completely possible. In parallel, the Minister of Economy has set up a joint task force with the Minister of Finance, putting the tax and customs administration into action, on the one hand, with the aim of increasing control in the hydrocarbon market and preventing any abusive increase in fuel prices and on the other hand to quickly study the impact on the abusive phenomenon of food price increases. This proportional group will focus with a detailed plan on the entire fuel trading chain, both wholesale and retail, while prices will be under constant monitoring by the relevant institutions ", said Prime Minister Rama.

Meanwhile, Rama announced that the draft law on strategic oil reserves is currently in the public consultation process. This project envisages the creation of oil reserves that can cover the country's needs for one to three months.

"Also, the draft law on strategic oil reserves is already in public consultation. It coincides with this situation, but it is an initiative undertaken long before the creation of this situation. It foresees the creation of reserves that extend from one to three months of oil, but I said it before, our ambition goes beyond this and I believe that in a few months, citizens will be able to touch the beginning of a long-awaited change in the fuel market ," said Rama.

According to him, although this initiative was undertaken earlier, it coincides with the current situation and aims to increase the country's energy security. Rama added that within a few months, citizens could begin to see the first signs of a long-awaited change in the fuel market.
