"Governance must start from the expectations of citizens" - Rama: Changes to the law on protected areas, in accordance with European Directives

Governance must be built on the expectations of citizens, even though their expectations are greater than the government's ability to respond to them.
This was stated by Prime Minister Edi Rama at the extended meeting of the government and the parliamentary group of the Socialist Party, adding that governance must now be in harmony with the daily experience of citizens, despite the positive achievements that the government has had so far.
"It is no longer enough to govern the present with investments, but in harmony with the daily experience of today's citizen because the hearts and minds of Albanians are no longer where they were until yesterday and have no connection with economic statistics, no matter how positive they may be. They are anchored precisely to their expectations. Therefore, the flamingo boulevard should be seen not as a protest, but as a mirror that society has placed before us, challenging us to look at ourselves and seriously verify whether we have our minds and hearts in the right place to govern Albania in this new phase that we must first and foremost understand. I saw the closing of an era and the beginning of another. The closed era is the era of lack. In the era of lack, societies suffer along roadless roads and rejoice like the child of a gift. Tolerance for things that are missing is very great. The open era is the era of expectations where the new path is the standard, not victory", said Rama.
Rama emphasized once again that the changes to the law on protected areas and biodiversity were made in accordance with European Directives, within the framework of the negotiation process.
"We made the first law integrated with EU standards for protected areas and in this decade we expanded their surface area. The 2024 amendments to that law are used as fuel by individuals in protest. The truth is that those amendments were made in accordance with the European Directive. There is a process in place to implement the negotiation calendar, they are scanned one by one with the European Union within the framework of the negotiations and nothing passes without the approval of the Commission. A protest to protect the bird and the lagoon from me, while we have given no modest results in protecting biodiversity," said Rama.
According to the Prime Minister, contrary to what the protesters say, the project is not under construction, but is being designed by the hands of the best architects and engineers in the world.
