Summer holidays are boosting reading - Book imports increase by 25%. Tourists buy in bookstores, Albanians online
"Do we read more during the summer? On the beach, in cafes, on trips... you see books everywhere. Or at least that's what it seems like. Is summer a season where we read more, or do we just take the book with us for photos?"
"The time of year and the summer period are among the busiest for us as a bookstore. People buy books because they definitely want them with them on the beach umbrellas, making this season very intense for us," says Eneriko Paja, Sales Manager.
According to data from the Institute of Statistics, during the first 6 months of this year, 864 thousand tons of books and magazines were imported. Compared to the same period last year, imports have increased by about 25%. Foreign visitors are the ones who show more culture to buy and read books during their stay in Albania.
“I actually read all year round, whenever I have time. I found some foreign titles in this bookstore and in 3 days, when I go south for vacation, I will start reading.”
“During the summer I buy books to read, because I have more time and I do it wherever I go, like in this case in Albania.”
“I love books a lot, but my daughter uses them more to take photos and post them on social networks. ” – say some of the tourists in the center of Tirana.
While tourists prefer to buy books physically in local bookstores, for many Albanians, ordering online has become the easiest way.
"We notice that readers are getting closer to the book, but what stands out is the increase in online sales, especially during the summer, " says Elda Vela, Publisher.
If summer is the time for vacation, for many others it is also the time to return to a book, whether on the beach, in a cafe, or simply for a photo on Instagram.
