Plans for 24-hour water supply/ By 2029, 100% of urban areas and 80% of villages
24-hour supply of drinking water in 100% of urban areas and over 80% of rural areas, by 2030”. This is one of the objectives set in the government program for the 4-year period, which was approved a few days ago in the Assembly. Another objective is the Creation of the State Water Production Operator, as a unified national structure that administers water resources, guarantees quality, protection and long-term sustainability.
The program also states that during the period 2025-2029, distribution and supply will be consolidated as a function, ensuring network maintenance and reducing losses, while the consumer will receive transparent service, correct billing and efficient service. Full digitalization of services through sensors, real-time monitoring and artificial intelligence, guaranteeing modern control and integrated management is another point of the program towards the sector, as part of the second pillar "Sustainable economic growth".
At the beginning of September, the reform that is expected to be undertaken in the sector was presented, where, among other things, it was announced that the State Water Production Operator will be functional from January 2026. The creation of this structure will also be accompanied by the establishment of the Water Task Force, with a focus on terminating illegal connections and reforming the human resources of water supply and sewage companies.
During the presentation of the reform, the authorities said that there are currently 43 urban and 98 rural areas that are supplied with water 24 hours a day.
